IIT-Delhi Astronomy Week 2013
The mysteries of the universe have enthralled and fascinated mankind for ages. The rich vastness of the universe and its utterly amazing diversity continue to mystify amateurs and professionals now alike. Once we realize our position in the vast universe our wonderment about its grandeur magnifies.The Astronomy Club of IIT-Delhi offers a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of astronomy along with enjoying the sheer beauty in which the nature presents itself. As part of its annual fest, it is celebrating Astro week from 19th to 22nd September 2013.
This one of its kind event sprawls over 4 days. People from all over Delhi and NCR are coming to witness the fest and make best use of the opportunities it presents. There are amazing talks by some distinguished physicists like Dr V. Ravishanker of IITD, Dr T R Sheshdhari of DU, Dr Debashish Ghosal of JNU and Ajay Talwar AAA Delhi. The lecture topics includeRelativity,Cosmology,String Theory,Comets andGalaxies. Every night a Sky Observation session is organized where participants can see Jupiter, Saturn's rings, Moon's Craters and some Nebulas through a telescope. Fervor for this is already there in campus. For all the physics students out there is a panel discussion on careers in Physics. Movie screening of Universe centered movies is also going on.
Rahul Kumar, a second year IITD student says 'Astronomy has been my favorite topic in Physics. I simply love the way Universe is organized in such an amazing manner. This fest offers things I have always desired to learn. I am really looking forward it with all zeal.'
The development of core astronomy in India have although not been very appreciable but its spirit is seen vividly among the young kids. People who really look for a carrier in Astronomy prefer to move to NASA or other foreign Space Agency where work is not stagnant but progressive. In India,ISROoffers great opportunities in Astrophysics and Space carriers but unfortunately it is the only established institution in the field. Astronomy clubs in colleges and Astro weeks like this one is very indispensable in promoting this highly amazing and meticulous field.
